“God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging.” -Psalm 46:1-3
Heavenly Father, you are a refuge for all who call upon your name—especially the outcast and oppressed. You have been my strong tower against my adversaries. My flesh and my heart may fail, but you are the strength of my heart and my portion forever (Ps. 73:26). You are an ever present help in trouble.
For these reasons, I will not fear. Perfect love casts out all fear (1 Jn. 4:18). If the earth and mountains fall into the heart of the sea, my foundation will still be found in you. For you are my Rock and Redeemer. There is nothing that can break our bond apart. Even if the waters roar and the mountains quake around me, my solid anchor is in you. Praise be to your name!
“There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God, the holy place where the Most High dwells. God is within her, she will not fall; God will help her at break of day. Nations are in uproar, kingdoms fall; he lifts his voice, the earth melts.” -Psalm 46:4-6
Righteous King, in Genesis 2:10 you said there is a river watering the garden flowed from Eden. In Revelation 22:1, you promised once again there is a river of the water of life, as clear as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and the Lamb. I long to abide in this holy place where you dwell. I look forward to the day I bow before your throne and worship you forever and ever.
God, your holiness permeates the heavenly realm. You are a wall of fire and the glory in the midst of your creation (Zech. 2:5). Your brilliant righteousness will keep us strong so that we don’t fall. Even if the nations rise against the King of Kings, their kingdoms will surely fall. For when you lift your voice, the earth melts. When you utter your awesome splendor, no one will be able to stand firmly against you. I therefore humble myself and ask for your grace and mercy.
“The Lord Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress. Come and see what the Lord has done, the desolations he has brought on the earth. He makes wars cease to the ends of the earth. He breaks the bow and shatters the spear; he burns the shields with fire.” -Psalm 46:7-9
Everlasting Father, you are with us. You will never leave us or forsake us (Heb. 13:5). Even if the world abandons us, you will still be there as the fortress and protector of our souls. When enemies are trying to usurp the Lord and dethrone Him, they will be destroyed. You will break their bows, shatter their spears, and destroy their shields with fire. There is no human invention that can withstand the Almighty God of the universe.
Lord, you also make wars cease. Your ultimate desire is that all of your enemies turn in perfect repentance to you. You are patient and longsuffering, not willing that any perish but all come to faith and salvation (2 Pet. 3:9). You also said, “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall inherit the earth (Matt. 5:9).” Therefore, help us to bring unity, peace, and as Paul said in Romans 12:18—If possible, live at peace with everyone. For we are the hands and feet of Christ to make the world a better place.
“He says, Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth. The Lord Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress.” -Psalm 46:10-11
Almighty Jehovah, we stand still and know that you are God. Your presence alone signifies a holiness and splendor that no other creature can compare to. For you are not a created being like us. You are the Creator without beginning or end. We exalt you in the earth and in the heavens.
You are the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. You are the God of all creation. There is no one to compare with you. As your followers, we should never think of you as an image formed by man’s skill and imagination (Isa. 40:18). For you were not created by human hands, but your hands did create us. You are the potter and we are the clay. Let us therefore bow in reverence. May your name be glorified in our every breath. Halleluiah and Amen.
