Haiku Poem: Metamorphosis

The caterpillar.

Metamorphosis delight.

Flying to freedom.

What an amazing insect. When I first heard that a caterpillar turned into a butterfly, I was shocked. It took me a few years before I finally believed it.

Metamorphosis is the right terminology for this change. It is radical. From the larval stage to the adult stage is an incredible transformation.

I wanted to end this haiku with the butterfly flying away to freedom. Before, it was not able to fly and was wrapped in a cacoon between 5-21 days. While it was safe and going through change, it was really “suspended” in time. When the metamorphosis happens, it’s incredible to see this species fly away.

Oftentimes, Christians talk about their “born-again” experience from the Greek word “metanoia”, which has the same connotation as the butterfly change. When one becomes a Christian, their old life becomes brand new. While they are the same person, just like the caterpillar, God spiritually transforms them into a new person. May we all hope to experience our souls from being entangled in sin to being set free by Christ. Blessings!
