Hear me, Lord, and answer me, for I am poor and needy. Guard my life, for I am faithful to you; save your servant who trusts in you. You are my God; have mercy on me, Lord, for I call to you all day long. Bring joy to your servant, Lord, for I put my trust in you (Ps. 86:1-4)
Heavenly Father, hear my cry. Answer me during times of trials. For you know I am a poor and needy creature. The good news is that you said, “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for they shall be filled.” Fill me with your Holy Spirit and may my heart overflow with joy.
Lord, guard my life. Protect me from any temptation that would lure me away from your goodness. For I am faithful to you and desire to trust in you with my whole being. Convict, encourage, and remind me of the great salvation I have in you.
Merciful King, when I call to you for help, I am confident you will listen. You desire to bring joy to your servants. I know I can trust in you. For your word tells us to trust in the Lord with all our heart—do not lean on our own understanding—but in all our ways acknowledge you, and you will keep us on the right path.
You, Lord, are forgiving and good, abounding in love to all who call to you. Hear my prayer, Lord; listen to my cry for mercy. When I am in distress, I call to you, because you answer me (Ps. 86:5-7).
Dear Jesus, the world is in trouble. There is a lot of tension and division. I know that you are forgiving and good, abounding in love. Please, Lord, bring peace to this world and heal our land. Convict the world of their sin so that they would call on you and obtain mercy.
Lord, I know you hear my prayer. But let me not be like the Pharisees who babbled for hours just to appear holy before others. I truly want to give you praise and honor. I know that you hear my prayers, even when they are long. Please listen to my cry for mercy. You said in your word, “Blessed are the merciful; for they shall obtain mercy.”
Holy Father, when I am in distress, the only shelter I have is you. When the storms of life rage, may I find my strength in you alone. You answer my prayers, even when things don’t seem to be going in the right direction. I know that you are faithful and just and will create a place for me to be planted and thrive. I ask that you please help me to grow abundant fruit wherever you place me. In Jesus name.
Among the gods there is none like you, Lord; no deeds can compare with yours. All the nations you have made will come and worship before you, Lord; they will bring glory to your name. For you are great and do marvelous deeds; you alone are God (Ps. 86:8-10).
Righteous Lord, there is no other god besides you. For you are holy, holy, holy. When Jonah told the mariners who you were, they were surprised when Jonah said: “I follow the God of the land and the sea.” In other words, you are an all-encompassing God and nothing else compares to you. For you are king over all the earth.
At the end of the age, all the nations will bow before you. Even now, your kingdom is expanding throughout the whole world. For the gospel of reconciliation in Jesus is being spread to every tribe, tongue, and nation. You are being glorified as I write this message today.
O Lord, you are a great and marvelous Creator. The work of your hands are evident in creation. The stars, moon, ocean, sea creatures, land animals—we all bow to you in humble adoration. You alone are God. You are worthy of all glory, honor, and praise.
Teach me your way, Lord, that I may rely on your faithfulness; give me an undivided heart, that I may fear your name. I will praise you, Lord my God, with all my heart; I will glorify your name forever. For great is your love toward me; you have delivered me from the depths, from the realm of the dead (Ps. 86:11-13).
Everlasting King, teach me your way so that I may be faithful to your commandments. Do not let me steer away from your truth. Give me an undivided heart so that I will not be distracted by other philosophies and traditions. For I fear your name and desire to do what is right and noble.
I will praise you God with all my heart, mind, soul, and strength. I will glorify your name just like the stars shine in the night sky. I will lift up your holy name and tell others about your goodness and grace. For your love is steadfast and great. You have delivered me from difficult situations and brought life to my soul. Thanks, O Lord my God.
Arrogant foes are attacking me, O God; ruthless people are trying to attack me. But you, Lord, are a compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness. Turn to me and have mercy on me; show your strength in behalf of your servant; save me, because I serve you just as my mother did. Give me a sign of your goodness, that my enemies may see it and be put to shame, for you, Lord, have helped me and comforted me (Ps. 86:14-17).
Prince of Peace, there are arrogant people in this world. They desire to mute the Christian faith. The cancel culture of our generation do not want to hear the gospel that Jesus saves sinners. I don’t understand why because you are a compassionate and gracious God. You are slow to anger and abounding in love. This is what the world needs!
Savior and Shield, turn to me and have mercy. Show your strength and goodness in my life. May you help me to follow all the faithful people in my household who have given you praise, glory, and honor. May future generations benefit from my faithfulness to you. Give me a sign of your goodness so that I know you are with me every step of the way. Creator of the universe, you are to be highly praised. Amen.
