Psalm 27: Praying Through The Psalms

“The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear?”Psalm 27:1

Holy God, you are the brilliant light that is full of goodness. Your mercies are renewed everyday. You cause the sun to shine on both the righteous and the wicked. You are the light of the world, and our salvation. In you, we are rescued from despair, anxiety, and this cruel world. There is nothing we must fear, for you are with us in every moment. Thank you for being so kind!

The Lord is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? When evildoers assail me and try to destroy me, my adversaries and foes, it is they who stumble and fall. Though an army encamp against me, my heart shall not fear; though war arise against me, yet I will be confident.” -Psalm 27:2-3

Lord Jesus, you are the stronghold of my life. Even if dark shadows are cast upon me, I shall not fear. For you protect me from evildoers and those who try to destroy me. Even if adversaries or foes rise up against me, I will do as you command: To love my enemies and do good to those who persecute me. Finally, if war rages in my midst, I will be confident and strong in the Lord. For you are my mighty fortress.

One thing I have asked of the Lord, that will I seek after: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord and to inquire in his temple. For he will hide me in his shelter in the day of trouble; he will conceal me under the cover of his tent, he will lift me high upon a rock.” -Psalm 27:4-5

Heavenly Father, you sent your Son Jesus to die on our behalf. He imputed righteousness to us. Now that we have been justified freely by your grace in what your Son did on the cross, we are able to dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of our lives. Thank you for providing mercy and eternal life. Thank you for hiding us in your shelter in the day of trouble. I know that when things get tough in life, you will be there to protect me. When I am most vulnerable, and storms brew within my circumstances, you will lift me high upon a rock.

“And now my head shall be lifted up above my enemies all around me, and I will offer in his tent sacrifices with shouts of joy; I will sing and make melody to the Lord. Hear, O Lord, when I cry aloud; be gracious to me and answer me! You have said, “Seek my face.” Psalm 27:6-7

O Redeemer of my soul, no one will keep me from praising your name. Even if enemies are all around me, I will stir melody in my heart to lift up your name. I will sing and make melody to you, My God. Please hear my cry and pleading for help. You told me to seek your face. I am seeking your face and pursuing you with all that I have. Forgive me for my inadequacies and sinful tendencies to ignore you.

“My heart says to you, Your face, Lord, do I seek. Hide not your face from me. Turn not your servant away in anger, O you who have been my help. Cast me not off; forsake me not, O God of my salvation! Teach me your way, O Lord, and lead me on a level path because of my enemies.” -Psalm 27:8-11

Everlasting Father, do not hide your face from me. When trials and persecution comes, I need to rejoice in knowing you are there. Do not cast me away from your presence. For you are my rock and redeemer. You are my comforter during times of stress. You save me from the empty void and the temptations of worldly pleasure. Teach me your ways and lead me on a level path. You are a lamp to my feet. You guide and direct me. Keep me on your perfect path.

“Give me not up to the will of my adversaries; for false witnesses have risen against me, and they breathe out violence. I believe that I shall look upon the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living! Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the Lord! -Psalm 27:12-14

Lord, you have taught us to be kind and loving. You have encouraged us to love our enemies and do good to those who are mean. When people breathe out violence and anger, help me to be peaceful. For you are the Prince of Peace. I shall look upon the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. You have set my paths toward a land flowing with milk and honey. I will wait for you. I will be strong and take courage. As I pray, I wait for you to give me a clear direction. Amen.
