Daily Devotional: Confidence In The Lord Is The Key To Spiritual Growth

"Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus." -Philippians 1:6

The Lord is our rock and redeemer. He promises to never leave us or forsake us. Through every trial and storm we encounter in life, we can be confident the Lord will be by our side. Furthermore, when Christians abide in the true vine, they can be confident that their faith will grow to full maturity.

I remember growing up watching the energizer bunny on almost every commercial break. This was in the early 90s when you still had a physical copy of the TV guide. Anyways, the famous line was this: “He keeps going and going and going.”

The same is true when we put our confidence in Christ. No matter the circumstances, when we abide in Him, we can keep going and going and going in the Christian faith. Whereas the bunny will eventually get tired, the Holy Spirit has unlimited energy. He will sustain us until the day of redemption.

The Bible tells us this clearly in Romans 8:39:

"Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord."

Confidence is an important component to our Christian faith. Without confidence, we will be unsure whether to trust in what Scripture promises. Look at it this way. Confidence=strong trust. Therefore, when we know that God will be with us no matter what, our faith will continually rise.

I have been swimming competitively almost my entire life. I started in age group, swam in high school and college, and currently swim for Master’s swimming. This sport has taught me that confidence is vital to success in the pool. You must trust that all your training and hard work will pay off during competition day.

This notion is even truer for our relationship with God. This is because He is the one who begins a good work. He is the one who promises to complete it. As mortal beings, we fail. Even when we out train others in academics, sports, or the workforce, there is still a limit to what we can do. Our confidence can’t be perfect as frail creatures.

However, this is not true with God. Our confidence is perfect because He is perfect. Our confidence is strong because He is strong. Our confidence is unfailing because the Lord Almighty is unfailing. This is the marvelous truth we believe about our faith.

If you are down and weary, pray for God to give you strength. If you are a doubting Thomas, open up Scripture and meditate on the promises of God. Losing confidence? Talk with a brother or sister in Christ. Share your struggles. Be authentic and genuine. When you do so, your confidence in the Lord will grow.

Scripture, prayer, church, and authenticity with the Lord are the key aspects to unlocking your confidence in the Lord. You don’t need a 10 step guide to do this. The only manual you need is the Bible. The Bible is the key ingredient for spiritual growth. The more you chew on the Word, the greater your confidence in Christ will be. May the Lord be with you. Let’s pray!

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thanks for your pure word. Thanks for the promises you give to those who have repented of their sin and placed faith in Jesus alone for their salvation. May you give us the confidence, strength, and resilience to overcome every sin and trial in our lives. Help us to believe that you will never leave us or forsake us. You are a good King. You are a good God. May you be glorified in our lives. Amen.
