Revelation 6 introduces us to the Lamb of God, who begins to open the seven seals of a scroll held in the right hand of God. Each seal signifies a different aspect of God’s plan for the world’s redemption, and as each one is broken, various events unfold.
- The First Seal – The White Horse: A rider with a bow and a crown goes out to conquer, symbolizing the spread of false messiahs, deception, and conquest in the end times.
- The Second Seal – The Red Horse: A rider with a sword signifies warfare, strife, and conflict, resulting in global turmoil.
- The Third Seal – The Black Horse: A rider holding scales suggests famine and economic hardship, where food becomes scarce and costly.
- The Fourth Seal – The Pale Horse: Death and Hades follow as a rider named Death rides forth, marking widespread mortality through various means, including famine, pestilence, and war.
- The Fifth Seal – The Martyrs’ Cry: Beneath the altar, the souls of the martyrs cry out for justice, symbolizing the suffering of believers and their longing for God’s ultimate judgment.
- The Sixth Seal – Cosmic Disturbances: A great earthquake, darkened sun, blood-red moon, and falling stars indicate a cosmic upheaval, creating fear and awe among the inhabitants of the Earth.
- The Seventh Seal – Silence in Heaven: When the Lamb opens the seventh seal, there is a profound silence in heaven, signaling the anticipation of even more momentous events to come.
