In life, we are often guided by our passions and ambitions. These are the things that keep us awake at night, the endeavors that drive us to excel and make a difference in the world. For many, including myself, sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ is a passionate calling—a mission to spread the good news that God saves sinners. But how do we balance our passions with our purpose, ensuring that we are living our lives in a way that truly glorifies God?
1 Corinthians 10:31 (ESV) reminds us, “So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.” This verse lays the foundation for our approach to life. Everything we do, from the mundane to the extraordinary, should ultimately serve the purpose of glorifying our Creator.
For me, my passion lies in sharing the gospel. It’s the message of hope, redemption, and salvation that has changed my life, and I am compelled to share it with others. However, like the apostle Paul, I understand the need for a tent-making profession to support my family and my mission.
Colossians 3:23-24 (NIV) beautifully encapsulates this perspective: “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.” Whether I’m sharing the gospel or working as a realtor, I do it with all my heart, as if I’m serving the Lord Himself.
Proverbs 16:3 (NIV) offers a vital reminder: “Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.” This verse underscores the importance of entrusting our plans and passions to God. When we align our passions with His purpose, we find fulfillment and success in His way.
In Matthew 28:19-20 (ESV), Jesus commissions us: “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.” This Great Commission is the heartbeat of our passion, urging us to share the gospel and make disciples, all for the glory of God.
Whatever your passion may be, whether it’s in medicine, finance, or any other field, remember that our ultimate goal is to give honor to God. Like Paul’s tent-making, your career can be a means to support your mission. By living for God’s glory and aligning your passions with His purpose, you’ll find that your life becomes a testimony of faith and dedication, echoing the words of 1 Corinthians 10:31: “Do all to the glory of God.”
