Embracing Chaos: A Dad’s Journey Through Daily Blessings

One busy morning, I was in charge of our four kids while my wife, who’s a nurse, was at work. I had a lot to handle. First, I needed to wake up the two older boys, make them breakfast, grab their water bottles and put things in their backpacks. At the same time, I had to get my youngest son ready for daycare. And just to add more to the mix, I needed to wake up our baby, give her some milk, and then get everyone into the car to take the boys to school.

In the middle of all this chaos, I tried to stay positive and remember how lucky I am to have them. It felt like everything was happening all at once, and I worried we might be late for school. Then my son needed me to help with a spider in his shoe, and another one needed cream for his mosquito bites. It’s funny how quickly you become the person who fixes all their problems.

I quietly thought to myself, “Can’t you deal with the spider on your own? I’m so busy!” But then it hit me: I’m the dad, the one they look up to. I’m their hero and leader. It’s kind of like how God is our leader. When things get tough, we turn to Him for help. He doesn’t say, “Why are you asking me about a spider?” He’s always there for us. It’s like He’s saying, “Yes, of course I’ll help. Yes, I am God. I’m in charge, and you’re my child. I’ll take care of you.”

This made me realize how important it is to stay positive even when things are hectic. I thought about the special role I have as a dad. Just like God will be respected and important everywhere, I understood that I have an important role at home. Even though it’s just an ordinary routine, it reminded me to appreciate being a dad and to stay positive through the busy moments of life.

After reflecting upon my experience, here are 7 verses from Scripture that resonated with me. My hope is that you meditate on these truths of Scripture and apply them to whatever circumstance you are in. Blessings!

  1. Matthew 6:25-26 (NIV): “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?”
  2. Philippians 4:6-7 (NIV): “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
  3. Psalm 127:3-5 (NIV): “Children are a heritage from the Lord, offspring a reward from him. Like arrows in the hands of a warrior are children born in one’s youth. Blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them. They will not be put to shame when they contend with their opponents in court.”
  4. Isaiah 41:10 (NIV): “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
  5. Psalm 139:13-14 (NIV): “For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.”
  6. Proverbs 22:6 (NIV): “Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it.”
  7. Psalm 23:1-4 (NIV): “The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake. Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.”
